Unrelated: E3 - Codemaster’s “Operation Flashpoint”

ofpdrlogo

Eric and I got a one on one two guide through Codemaster’s Operation Flashpoint, and I have to say, I’m impressed. The game is incredibly visceral, and the world is huge. It’s a first person shooter that also features squad based combat. I have a few qualms, but the experience of that 20 minute playthrough has left me begging for more.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 05

Here we are again with our fifth podcast. This was an interesting podcast, we didn’t have much structure at all before we started so discussion tended to bounce around quite a bit.

However, I think it’s one of the more entertaining podcasts, and if you stick through the hour and a half we end up coming to quite an epiphany, if we do say so ourselves.

I edited this on our way to Los Angeles for E3, so forgive any apparent hastiness, I was bouncing around in a car. Also, I uploaded this on an AT&T mobile broadband connection, and I must say I’m very impressed, I had a consistent upload speed of 125kb/s to my webhosting. Getting a reliable connection in the first place is another story though.

Waking up to 50 emails on my phone (and those were just the ones it was showing me) was not a pleasant experience. Since we are being spammed, I have temporarily disabled comments unless you are a member. Sorry!

The Mobile Ping - Emergency Podcast 01

How could we resist recording a last minute podcast and editing it in 5 minutes when we read about the leaks coming in from Engadget. What the hell happened at AT&T? PalmOS? Android? Look to the sky, it’ll hit you in the face on the way down.

Also, Scott does the unthinkable and defends Apple and their pricing on the iPhone.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 04 After Smoke Break

Finally here we go with the After Smoke Break portion of the fourth podcast. Sorry I was a bit late on this one, lots of stuff went on for my birthday, and my computer was out of commission for a little bit.

Anyway, listening through this podcast is actually pretty dated considering a lot of the news released today throughout the blogosphere.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 04

Finally, it’s just Scottastic and I doing our fourth podcast, yet our first podcast on our own. We wanted to try to talk about a few ideas, in a way that we might present them towards Apple/Google/Palm, that goal didn’t last too long. But hey, it’s in STEREO! and it’s twice the download size, worth it? kinda.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 03 After Smoke Break

Here we have a special ranty podcast. We wrapped up our thoughts on the major smart phone OS’s so we decided to have a discussion about cell phone rate plans, and what should be done as text and data plans overtake the importance of voice plans. Oh and Documents To Go on the G1 is like the greatest thing ever.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 03

Concluding our discussion on the smartphone OS’s; Symbian, Android, WebOS and alittle bit of Palm OS is in there for good measure. But we didn’t stop there, no, we couldn’t resist from blasting LG and their mediocre phones.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 02 After Smoke Break

After giving Blackberry a few swift kicks followed by a few tender reflective kisses we took a break and decided to give Windows Mobile the Mobile Ping treatment.

Also, you have Ransom Rath to thank for making a couple theme songs for us to use. We’ll work on revising a more final version of our liners, but I decided to throw in some quick cuts of the raw tracks. Thanks Ransom!

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 02

It took a little longer than I expected, but we’ve got the second Mobile Ping Podcast now up for your listening enjoyment. I just moved and don’t have internet yet (I know, how can I live?), so I’m relying on stealing bandwidth from a local coffee shop.

Anyway, this podcast is going to be part of a series of discussions going over how we feel about the current state of all the smart phone operating systems, and what their future may have in store for them.

First up we tear apart Blackberry OS. Enjoy!

Seller’s Dilemma: “Tell me what phone to get!”

Seller’s Dilemma is our regular series discussing the qualifying and selling of phones, features, and accessories to consumers.

Most consumers know exactly what kind of phone they want, they just need a little information as to which phone that actually is. You want to edit spreadsheets, read your email, and connect to your exchange server? Windows Mobile. Listen to your music on your phone but no interest in the internet? Sony Ericsson.

But what if the customer has no idea what they want to be able to do?

T-mobile G1 Review

g1front

I know this is late for a review of a device released in October 2008, but I’ve had mine for a little over a month now, so it’s a new device to me. We aren’t the kind of blog that gets review devices, so we have to wait until we’re able to get it for ourselves. So I’m going to give you some of my impressions on the hardware and software from the perspective of someone who’s lived with the phone a bit more than the typical reviewer.

The Mobile Ping - Podcast 01 After Smoke Break

We ended up covering a lot more for our first podcast than we initially intended. So after taking a quick smoke break the ranting continued. This may be a regular occurance or it may not, we haven’t decided yet.

If you enjoyed the first podcast and want more, or want to jump straight into the thick of our rant, you’ll definitely enjoy this one.

And yes, I say this in jest.

Rumor: Palm Pre releasing April 30th

palm_pre_1

According to palmwebos.org the CEO of Logicomm leaked the release date of the Palm Pre for April 30th. Most of their research looks sound, and if you go to his Twitter feed you can see that the updates have been locked.

This could have been an imposter Twitter account trying to spread some hotly anticipated information. However, based on the locked Twitter account it seems more and more likely that this is possibly legit and Palm asked them to take it down before it spread too far. The fact that I’m writing this means they obviously didn’t get there quite in time.

I for one am incredibly excited if this date ends up being true. I know Scott and I will be at our local Sprint store waiting to get some sweet Pre action.
